Although there is some news coming out regarding what will be the new Port Authority Bus Terminal (PABT), most of it deals with the possible price tags involved in the construction of the new station. For some of the basics about the PABT read this article from Bloomberg.com. What isn’t in the news is how Hell’s Kitchen/West Side residents might be affected. From the increased noise and dust generated from what will be a massive construction project, to what will happen to the buildings that might be demolished with this project, these possible conflicts are on the horizon.
Although the new PABT is still in the preliminary planning stages, keep in mind that there is a push to have the new facility moved west from its current location, most likely the move would be between 9th & 10th avenues, or even between 9th & 11th avenues if the new station takes up that much space. There is rumor, and rumor is all it is at this point, that the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey (PANYNJ) will be selecting which building plan will be constructed, the decision coming in September of this year. Stay tuned.
