Join the 99% as the 1% decides rent increases. This Thursday marks the annual ritual that is the Rent Guidelines Board (RGB) – the panel that raises rent stabilized rents each year. The Mayor Bloomberg appointed panel is the bane of tenants’ wallets as they raise rents every single year for the 99%. WSNA is a member of the Real Rent Reform Coalition and wants to pass a bill that would tie rent increases to legislative approval instead of leaving tenants’ pocketbooks in the hands of the pro-landlord RGB panel. The RGB follows a familiar script each year, landlord representatives claim poverty and need double digit increases; tenant representatives say zero percent increases and the so-called public members broker a deal. Plan on plenty of chanting, lots of screaming and some television cameras. Come let of some steam with WSNA and hundreds on NYC tenants this Thursday!
