June 19th: Protesting the Rent Guidelines Board!

1

June 10, 2008 by westsideneighborhoodalliance

he NYC Rent Guidelines Board voted to raise rents for rent-stabilized tenants by 4.5% for one-year leases and 8.5% for two-year leases, with even higher rents for many tenants paying less than $1,000 a month.

But they didn’t do it without protest: WSNA members were some of the loudest, most vocal tenants at the Rent Guidelines Board vote this year, and you can see press coverage of our concerns here:

New York Sun (quotes WSNA member Dahlia DuPerroir)
New York Times (photo of WSNA member Nico Boccio)
New York Daily News (quotes WSNA member Matthew Abuelo)
Chelsea Now (quotes HCC organizer John Raskin)

And click here to see photos from our protest at the Rent Guidelines Board vote.

Join the fight to reform the RGB! We’re supporting a bill that would:

  • Require City Council approval of the Mayor’s Board appointments!
  • Bar landlords with violations from getting increases!
  • Use reports on landlords incomes and expense to determine rent adjustments!

Be sure to scope out our photos from the RGB vote and check out the Metropolitan Council on Housing web site for additional information about the Real Rent Reform campaign.

I actually wanted to write a simple message to

express gratitude to you for all of the great tactics you are giving out on this

site. My particularly long internet investigation has at
the end been paid with beneficial insight to share with my friends.

I ‘d claim that most of us website visitors actually are rather fortunate to exist in a useful

website with so many wonderful individuals with helpful pointers. I feel

    rather blessed to

have used your web page and look forward to plenty of more entertaining

times reading here. Thank you once more for a lot of things.
