WSNA New Year’s Party!

January 14, 2008 by westsideneighborhoodalliance

On January 16th, 100 WSNA members came together to celebrate our successes in ’07 and gear up for exciting work in 2008.

In 2007, the West Side Neighborhood Alliance:

  • Grew our grassroots organization to more than 500 members.
  • Led the fight against illegal hotels, winning a City Council hearing on Intro 534.
  • Brought 300 Spanish-speaking West Siders together for our Fiesta Comunitaria.
  • Mobilized West Siders for the largest tenants’ rights demonstration in NYC in a decade.
  • Collected hundreds of signatures for improved air quality and public transit.
  • Advocated for affordable housing, open space and reasonable density on the West Side Rail Yards.
  • Worked with Community Board 4 to launch a neighborhood-friendly rezoning of 11th Ave.
  • And more! It was quite a year and we hope you will join us in making change in ’08!

    1. Lisa Stone says:

There is a building on 11th avenue adding several floors – it’s on 11th between 47th and 48th just north of the 645 building.
I have always like this neighborhood because the buildings where smaller and I was under the impression that you could not add additional height to buildings.
Are you familiar with this and what can I do to particpate in the Alliance.
